A favorite pattern made in plush yarn

I knew this snake was going to be a keeper the moment I finished the head. It was one of those small crochet moments where a lump of yarn suddenly has a face, and I actually laughed out loud at how cute it was going to be.

That was a while ago, and I keep coming back to this pattern, for both big snakes and little ones. It's from Fame Art with Poonam on YouTube, if you'd like to try it yourself. It's a lovely one to learn from.

What I didn't expect was how much I'd enjoy the making. The body is mostly round after round of the same simple stitches, and after a while your hands just know what to do. I usually have a TV show or a YouTube video going in the background, and I can disappear into it for a good stretch. It's a bit zen, honestly.

Since that first snake, I've made several versions, trying different yarns and hook sizes to see how the texture changes. This green one is my favorite so far: jungle vibes, a properly plush feel, and about 130 cm of snake to coil around a chair, a shelf, or whoever happens to be nearby. It takes me about four hours from start to finish. There's also an albino version on the way, and I'm still sorting out its photoshoot, so keep an eye on the shop.

Only a few of these are available at a time, but I'd love an excuse to make a custom one. If you have a color, a size, or a personality in mind, and this buddy is your type of chaos, drop me a note at dana@thegildedloom.com.

And if you've made your own snake, or have a project you keep coming back to, I'd love to hear about it. I might feature a few stories in a future journal post.
