Hello, I am Dana

The Gilded Loom is a one-person shop. I am Dana, and I crochet every piece here by hand at home in Japan, one at a time, from the first stitch to the last.

It started as a way to make small gifts for the people around me. Friends began asking for one of their own, and the shop grew out of that.

What is amigurumi?

Amigurumi is the Japanese craft of crocheting or knitting small stuffed creatures — animals, food, and other little characters — worked in tight spirals so the stuffing stays hidden and the shape stays soft and round.

How a piece is made

Every piece begins with the yarn. I choose colours that sit well together and a weight that suits the shape, then crochet the body in one continuous round so there are no seams to come apart.

The parts are stuffed with polyester fibre and sewn on by hand. Eyes are secured from the inside, and details like a blush, a mouth or a tiny tentacle sucker are embroidered last.

A small piece takes a few hours; a larger one takes a day or more of crochet, plus the finishing.

One of a kind, or very nearly

Because everything is made by hand, most items in the shop are the only one of their kind, and the rest are made in runs of a few. Two pieces from the same pattern are never quite identical, and that is the point.

When something sells out it may come back in a different colour, or not at all.

Custom orders

If you have something particular in mind — your own pet, a colour that is not in the shop, a gift for someone specific — I take custom orders. You tell me what you would like, we agree on the details and a price by email, and I send you a private payment link when it is ready to begin.
